[News] Robinhood gives out tokens of OpenAI and SpaceX. Stock hits record
Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) unveiled U.S. stock and ETF tokens in the European Union, enabling eligible users to trade more than 200 tokenized stocks and ETFs, 24 hours a day, five days a week on the blockchain.
The company rolled out tokenized shares of OpenAI and SpaceX to users in Europe which stands out since neither company is publicly listed and access to their equity has historically been limited to insiders and ultra-wealthy investors.
This marks the first time Robinhood has tokenized private companies — a milestone made possible, in part, by the EU’s more flexible regulatory environment.
Regulatory hurdles — particularly accredited investor restrictions — remain a major barrier to bringing tokenized private equity to the U.S. market.
Stock tokens will initially be issued on the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain Arbitrum, Robinhood said. In the future, it added, tokenized stocks will be facilitated by HOOD's own layer 2 blockchain, based on Arbitrum.
In addition, EU customers will gain access to crypto perpetual futures with up to 3x leverage. This derivative offering will be rolled out in full by the end of the summer. Trades will be routed through Bitstamp, the crypto exchange that Robinhood (HOOD) bought for $200M in an all-cash deal.
Meanwhile, Robinhood (HOOD) is bringing crypto staking to U.S. customers -- starting with ether (ETH-USD) and solana (SOL-USD) -- to allow them to lock up their crypto to help run a blockchain and earn rewards in return.

[News] Apple considers using OpenAI, Anthropic to power Siri upgrade: report
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly weighing the benefits of using artificial intelligence models from Anthropic or the Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI to power its long-awaited upgrade to Siri, rather than leaning on an in-house model, according to Bloomberg.
The Cupertino-based company has asked the two startups to train versions of their AI models capable of running on Apple's cloud infrastructure for testing, the report said, citing people familiar with the issue.
Switching to an outside provider for AI could indicate Apple is having trouble developing its own generative AI technology, the report said. Apple already utilizes OpenAI's ChatGPT to enhance some of its Apple Intelligence features.
However, Apple's interest in using an outside company's model or models to run Siri is in an early stage, and the company is not near a final decision on the matter, the report said. Also, Apple has already approved a multibillion dollar budget to run its own AI models in the cloud starting next year.

[News] Trump renews feud with Musk, slams Tesla CEO over EV subsidies
The latest exchange marks another chapter in the ongoing feud between Musk and President Trump over the administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill” — a sweeping tax and spending proposal.
Musk has fiercely criticized the bill, warning that it would exacerbate the federal deficit and increase the national debt.
Elon Musk has threatened to unseat lawmakers who back President Donald Trump’s multi-trillion dollar tax bill, criticizing it for adding $3.3 trillion to the U.S. deficit.
In a separate post earlier, Musk, who spent around $290M backing Trump and other Republicans in the 2024 election, said that if “insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day”.
Just hours after Musk floated the idea of a new political party if the “big, beautiful bill” passed, Trump fired back, claiming the Tesla CEO “may get more subsidy than any human in history” and hinted that DOGE — the government efficiency program Musk once led — should take a “good, hard look” at his companies.
On the South Lawn of the White House on Tuesday, the president told a reporter who asked if he would deport Mr. Musk: “I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look.”

[News] Ford CEO: AI will replace half of all white-collar workers in U.S.
Ford (NYSE:F) CEO Jim Farley believes that AI and new technologies have an asymmetric impact on the economy. "… that means a lot of things are helped a lot and a lot of things are hurt. AI will leave a lot of white-collar people behind."
Amazon (AMZN) CEO Andy Jassy told employees that efficiency gains from AI would likely reduce the company's workforce in the next few years.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Amazon (AMZN)-backed AI startup Anthropic, told Axios that AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs and spike unemployment to 10%-20% in the next 1-5 years.
Marianne Lake, head of JPMorgan's (JPM) consumer and community banking unit, said operations headcount could decline about 10% in the coming years amid growing AI adoption.
Meta (META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg in April predicted that most of the company's code could be written by AI in the next 12-18 months.

[News] 'One Big Beautiful Bill' passes House, set for Trump's signature
All Democrats in the House voted against the legislation. The only Republicans who voted against the legislation were Thomas Massie and Brian Fitzpatrick.
The final vote was 218-214.
The Senate vote on the bill on July 1 was 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the deciding vote. On the Republican side, Sens. Susan Collins, Rand Paul, and Thom Tillis were the only ones to oppose. All Democrats voted against it.
The bill contains $4.5T in tax cuts, but a Congressional Budget Office report said it will raise the deficit by $3.3T over the next 10 years. It will also cut $930B from Medicaid, Medicare, and Affordable Care Act programs over 10 years.
Solar and wind farms that enter service after 2027 would no longer be eligible for the credits. There is an exception, however, for projects that start construction within 12 months of the bill becoming law.

OpenAI said to have tapped Google for AI chips in a shift away from Nvidia
OpenAI has started using Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL)-made AI chips to build its products, including ChatGPT, signaling its first significant move away from an exclusive reliance on Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) chips, The Information reported.
The deal for GOOG’s tensor processing units (TPU) marks a supplier diversification for OpenAI, which has relied on NVDA chips in the past to train its AI models and for inference computing, a process where model execution takes place after the training is complete.
One of the biggest buyers of Nvidia's (NASDAQ:NVDA) graphics processing units ((GPUs)), the Sam Altman-led company expects Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) TPUs rented through Google Cloud will help it drive down costs related to inference, according to the report.
However, the Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) unit is reportedly not renting the most powerful TPUs to OpenAI, signaling its plans to use its most advanced versions to power the company's internal projects, including its own Gemini large language model.

OpenAI's use of Google's TPUs represents 'significant endorsement': Morgan Stanley
"We view OpenAI as the most notable TPU customer to date, others include Apple (AAPL), Safe Superintelligence and Cohere, and this agreement would be a significant endorsement of GOOGL's AI infrastructure capabilities which have been in development for a decade," Nowak said. "This would also be the first time OpenAI has used non-NVIDIA chips in a meaningful way, particularly interesting given OpenAI would opt to use TPUs despite the fact that they will not have access to the most advanced versions, speaking again to GOOGL's leading position within the broader ASIC ecosystem."
Still, Morgan Stanley indicates that the limited availability of Nvidia's GPUs due to high demand, likely played a role in OpenAI's decision to utilize Google's TPUs. The investment firm also said OpenAI's decision is not a good look for Amazon Web Services (AMZN) and its Trainium custom silicon chips.
"With the OpenAI/GOOGL partnership (if confirmed), OpenAI would now be running AI workloads across most major cloud providers including Google Cloud, Azure, Oracle (ORCL) and CoreWeave (CRWV)…with AMZN the notable player missing from the list," Nowak noted.

American Battery Technology surges as Nevada lithium project chosen for fast-track permitting
American Battery Technology (NASDAQ:ABAT) +10.6% in Monday trading after saying its Tonopah Flats lithium project in Nevada was selected as a "transparency priority project" by the Trump administration.
The designation means Tonopah Flats is now featured on the FAST-41 permitting dashboard, which American Battery (NASDAQ:ABAT) said underscores the project's role in supporting U.S.-based critical mineral production; it is one of three new projects the Trump administration has added to the FAST-41 permitting dashboard.
Tonopah Flats encompasses one of the largest identified claystone resource deposits in the U.S., and has "the foundation to play a pivotal role in addressing the nation's growing needs for onshoring battery-grade lithium," the company said.
The project also has received a competitive $58M grant to support the construction of the first phase by the U.S. Department of Energy, and the company received a letter of interest from the Export-Import Bank of the United State in April to provide a $900M loan to support the subsequent expansion of the commercial-scale lithium mine and refinery.

Texas authorizes use of gold and silver as legal tender for day-to-day transactions
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Sunday he signed a bill into law that designates gold and silver as legal tender for everyday financial transactions within the state.
The bill, expected to take effect in May 2027, amends the state government code to recognize the precious metals as legal tender and for residents to use them in everyday transactions based on the state comptroller's determined value at the time.
Under the new law, the comptroller's office will contract with a debit card provider to facilitate transactions; Texans will be able to deposit gold or silver into their accounts, and the debit card will convert those holdings into dollar amounts at the point of sale.
While specific details such as transaction fees and merchant participation are still being developed, the system is envisioned to function much like a standard debit card.

Renewables industry reels as Senate megabill unveils new excise tax
The latest version of the Senate’s tax and spending package, released late Friday, significantly tightens eligibility for clean energy incentives.
Under the new terms, wind and solar projects must be fully operational by the end of 2027 to qualify, replacing the earlier, more lenient requirement that only mandated construction begin by the end of 2025.
The Senate version also adds a new tax on these projects if they cannot prove their products are made without Chinese parts.
Republican Senator Joni Ernst has introduced an amendment to the U.S. Senate's tax and spending megabill that, amongst other things, would remove the proposed new tax on wind and solar projects that start after 2027 and make the credits available based on projects' construction start date instead of when they enter service.
Tesla (TSLA) Chief Executive Elon Musk, reacting on social media, called the proposal “utterly insane and destructive,” arguing that it favors legacy industries at the expense of emerging ones.
First Solar (FSLR), which is seen benefiting from the tax on companies using Chinese-made equipment, +7.8%, as Baird analyst Ben Kallo said the tax on companies using Chinese components is "good for domestic producers such as First Solar," although the measure would "shrink the pipeline" of projects.

Solar names jump as Senate passes 'Big Beautiful Bill' without excise tax on wind, solar projects
Solar stocks jump in Tuesday's trading after the U.S. Senate passed the latest version of President Trump's tax and spending legislation following days of tense negotiations, as Republicans removed a last-minute excise tax on wind and solar projects that contributed to big declines in several solar stocks on Monday.
The proposed tax was supported by some U.S. manufacturers who said the country needs to wean clean energy supply chains away from China. but it caused alarm from renewable developers who said it could raise costs for solar and wind farms that still rely on some foreign components and supply chains dominated by China.
The House, which barely passed its own version of the bill, now must vote on the Senate's substantial changes to the package, which promises to be a difficult task given that some Republican lawmakers have expressed continued concerns over the bill's impact on the federal deficit.

Atai rises as psychedelic drug succeeds in mid-stage trial for depression
Shares of atai Life Sciences (NASDAQ:ATAI) traded higher in the premarket on Tuesday after the company and its partner, Beckley Psytech Limited, said their jointly developed psychedelic drug BPL-003 succeeded in a mid-stage trial against depression.
The experimental therapy at a single 12 mg dose led to a statistically significant reduction in depressive symptoms at Day 29, according to a clinical measure known as the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS).
As for secondary goals, a single 8 mg dose of BPL-003 caused significant improvement at Day 29 with a statistically significant effect in terms of MADRS.
The companies noted the achievement of statistically significant improvements in MADRS scores as early as one day in response to both 8 mg and 12 mg doses as early as Day One post-dosing, with effects generally lasting nearly two months.
While BPL-003 was well tolerated among patients at all doses, atai and Beckley Psytech said that the results back the 8 mg dose’s potential to reach late-stage development, and they plan to discuss with the FDA in the coming months regarding a Phase 3 design for the drug in TRD.
