[News] Joby Aviation shows off its electric air taxi capabilities in New York City
Joby Aviation (JOBY) is attracting attention after completing the first-ever point-to-point electric air taxi demonstration flights in New York City across the city’s heliport network. The flights connected JFK with Manhattan sites, including Downtown Skyport and heliports in Midtown, and displayed how the quiet, zero-operating-emissions aircraft could eventually link airports, vertiports, and neighborhoods across the region.
The Santa Cruz, California-based company said the demonstrations, which will continue all week, are meant to prove the concept of fast urban air travel, with a potential trip from Lower Manhattan or Midtown to JFK taking under 10 minutes. Joby (JOBY) described the flights as part of a broader push toward commercial air taxi service, supported by partnerships with Delta Air Lines (DAL) and Uber Technologies (UBER) and by its 2025 acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s passenger business.

[News] Bloom Energy Non-GAAP EPS of $0.44 beats by $0.31, revenue of $751.1M beats by $211.08M
Revenue of $751.1M, more than double the prior-year quarter, also came above consensus by $211M. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.44 beat by $0.31.
Product revenue of $653.3 million in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 208.4% compared to $211.9 million in the first quarter of 2025.
Bloom Energy lifted FY26 revenue guidance to $3.4B–$3.8B from $3.1B–$3.3B. The new range brackets the Street consensus of $3.65B. The company said it also raised gross margin guidance to 32%–34%.
CEO KR Sridhar said on the earnings call that more than half of Bloom’s current data center backlog comes from customers apart from Oracle, including hyperscalers, neo-clouds, and colocation providers.
Sridhar said the company’s current manufacturing footprint supports annual production of up to 5 gigawatts and that the pace of revenue growth is constrained by how quickly customers can build their facilities rather than by Bloom’s production capacity.

Circuit board supply chain sees disruption amid Iran war: report
The Middle East conflict has disrupted supplies of vital raw materials and increased prices of the printed circuit boards, or PCBs, used in electronic devices, Reuters reported, citing industry sources and executives.
Earlier this month, Iran struck Saudi Arabia’s Jubail petrochemical complex, which led to a pause in the production of high-purity polyphenylene ether, or PPE, resin, a key base material used to manufacture PCB laminates, the report added.
SABIC, which accounts for about 70% of the world’s high-purity PPE supply and operates in the Jubail complex on the Gulf Coast, has not been able to restart production, severely tightening the availability of the material globally, the report noted. Shipping in and out of the Gulf has been severely disrupted by the Iran war.
A senior executive at Daeduck Electronics, a South Korean PCB, told the news agency his priority has now changed from meeting customers to suppliers, as the waiting time for chemical materials like epoxy resin has grown to 15 weeks from three weeks previously, the report added.
The sharp increase in PCB prices has also been due to a shortage of other crucial materials, such as glass fiber and copper foil, the report noted. Copper foil prices have surged up to 30% so far this year, with the rally seeing momentum in March.

[Newsletter Exclusive] Chinese auto giant BYD considers entering Formula 1 racing
BYD Company (BYDDF) (BYDDY) confirmed on Monday that the company is evaluating a potential entry into Formula 1 as it looks for ways to create global buzz around its brand. At the Beijing Auto Show, BYD vice president Stella Li called Formula 1 a real opportunity to test the Chinese automaker’s technology.
Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has indicated the organization would welcome a 12th team, particularly if a Chinese manufacturer were involved. Notably, F1’s shift toward more electrified powertrains makes participation more technologically relevant for BYD (BYDDF) (BYDDY) than in the V8 or early hybrid eras.
BYD (BYDDF) (BYDD) is reportedly weighing several options, including acquiring an existing team, joining as the 12th team on the grid, or participating primarily as a power-unit manufacturer or title partner. Buying into or taking over an established outfit is seen by analysts as the more realistic path due to the enormous costs and long lead times involved in building a full team from scratch, with estimates of around $500M per season for a ground‑up effort.
Looking ahead, BYD (BYDDF) (BYDDY) is not limiting its motorsport ambitions to Formula 1 alone and is also studying an entry into the World Endurance Championship, including blue-ribbon events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Trump administration ends two more offshore wind projects
The Bluepoint Wind project off the coasts of New York and New Jersey was being developed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture between France’s Engie (ENGIY) and Portugal’s EDP Renewables (EDPFY) (EDRVF), and BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, which will relinquish their leases and be reimbursed for costs in exchange for investing $765M in a U.S. liquefied natural gas facility.
On the west coast, Golden State Wind, which was in the early stages of developing a floating offshore wind project, agreed to cancel its lease off Morro Bay, California, in exchange for $120M in lease fees after it invests a similar amount in oil and gas, energy infrastructure or LNG projects.
The agreements are similar to a deal announced last month in which the U.S. government released TotalEnergies and its partners from $1B in offshore wind leases to redirect investment toward oil and natural gas projects in the U.S.

[Newsletter Exclusive] Enphase Energy drops after revenue falls on weak U.S. demand
Enphase Energy’s (ENPH) first-quarter revenue fell roughly 21% from a year earlier on weak demand for residential solar products in the United States.
Q1 revenue came in at $282.9M on Tuesday, narrowly beating estimates by $0.5M. Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $0.47, beating estimates by $0.02.
The company said revenue also fell sequentially by 23% after a federal residential solar tax credit expired. U.S. sell-through, actual product sold to end customers, dropped 48% from the fourth quarter and 18% from a year ago.
Enphase guided Q2 revenue to $280M to $310M, in line with the analyst estimate of $297M, but $85M of that figure comes from safe harbor shipments, purchases pulled forward by customers ahead of a July 4 tariff deadline, rather than underlying demand. Tariffs are expected to reduce Q2 gross margins by 3 percentage points.
Enphase cut U.S. distributor prices by 12%-14% in March and plans to cut European battery prices by 10% in May, following a 20% microinverter price cut in December, citing competition. Enphase is now developing products for AI data centers. “We are excited to announce today the development of our IQ solid-state transformer product for AI data centers,” said the CEO in conference call.

Nvidia B300 servers hit $1M price in China amid U.S. curbs - report
The price for Nvidia’s (NVDA) B300 servers, key for AI tasks, is now around $1M (7M yuan) each in China due to surging demand and tightened U.S. export curbs that have disrupted supply chains, Reuters reported, citing industry sources.
The B300 server—the chipmaker’s most powerful system for AI workloads—scaled sharply from around 4M yuan late last year, reflecting a scarcity premium driven by stricter U.S. export curbs.
In the U.S., a B300 server, which houses eight B300 GPUs, costs about $550,000, up slightly from around $500,000 earlier, highlighting the growing price gap due to limited supply in China.
Some companies, priced out by the surge, are turning to rentals instead, with one-year short-term contracts costing as much as 190,000 yuan per month.

“We remain firmly on track to commercially launch the Mod-1 in the fourth quarter,” and “based on these conversations stand today, we expect to be mostly sold out of our 2027 target production in the near term with a meaningful portion of 2028 spoken for.” (President Moreno)
Kristine Liwag, Morgan Stanley: “when you said that you’re mostly sold out for 2027.” President Moreno: “we’re in advanced negotiations… we expect, let’s say, to be sold out imminently.”
Announced a strategic packaging and distribution joint venture with Jereh Group, a global leader in gas turbine mobile packaging, to support the planned 2027 production target of 100 Mod-1 CFM56 aeroderivative units.

[Newsletter Exclusive] First Solar GAAP EPS of $3.22 beats by $0.24, revenue of $1.04B misses by $10M
“Since our last earnings call on February 24, we secured gross bookings of 1.9 gigawatts... we booked 1.4 gigawatts into our key U.S. utility-scale market at an ASP of approximately $0.35 per watt,” said CEO & Director Mark Widmar.
“We produced 4.3 gigawatts of modules in the quarter” and “our U.S. facilities operated at approximately 96% utilization,” said (CEO & Director Widmar). He also said the South Carolina finishing facility “is on track for production start in the second half of 2026,” while “our international facilities in Malaysia and Vietnam continue to operate at a significantly reduced utilization consistent with current trade dynamics and lower ASP expectations for internationally produced modules.”
“Our contracted backlog was 47.9 gigawatts at an aggregate transaction price of $14.4 billion, exclusive of technology adjusters with deliveries through 2030,” said (Chief Financial Officer Alexander Bradley).
Joseph Osha, Guggenheim: asked to clarify South Carolina vs. perovskite; CEO Widmar said South Carolina “is our CuRe... Series 6 product” and “has nothing to do with perovskite,” while perovskite pilot capacity will be in “our Perrysburg facility” using some Southeast Asia back-end tools.

Astera Labs, Credo among 6 AI stocks to get coverage from Rothschild
Astera Labs (ALAB), Credo Technology (CRDO), and Lumentum (LITE) were among a group of six artificial intelligence-linked stocks to receive coverage from investment firm Rothschild & Co.
Astera and Ciena (CIEN) were given Neutral ratings and price targets of $153 and $416, respectively. Credo, Celestica (CLS), Lumentum, and Coherent (COHR) were all rated Buy with price targets of $206, $460, $1,270, and $455, respectively.
“The monetization of Generative AI (GenAI) capex will require more intelligent large language models,” Rothschild analyst Mike Harrison wrote in a note to clients. “Model intelligence stems, in part, from the rate at which information is exchanged between chips. But the rate of this information exchange – bandwidth – is constrained by the copper interconnects that have historically fused parts of the data center together. As a result, the transmission of electrical signals down copper wires will increasingly give way to the transmission of photonic signals down optical fibers. For optical networking companies, this transition represents a (mostly) new addressable market. Companies that provide the technologies for Co-Packaged Optics, Optical Circuit Switching and the scale-across interconnects between data centers will likely experience rapid growth in revenues.”
As such, Harrison said he sees an expansion in the total addressable market for optical-focused companies as scale-up architectures require more of it.
