Trump claims Iran deal is near, but Tehran rejects his account
President Donald Trump said he will order U.S. forces to halt new strikes against Iran after what he described as an agreement on the parameters of a broader deal to end the five-month conflict in the Middle East.
Iranian officials disputed the president’s version of events almost immediately.
The semi-official Mehr news agency, citing military officials, called Trump’s claim “nothing but a new lie,” while the Fars news agency dismissed reports of a Hormuz agreement as false.
Iranian state media reported on Sunday that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told the cabinet that negotiations with Oman over the management of the Strait of Hormuz are in their “final stages” and “nearing completion”. However, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman clarified that the discussions are focused on establishing a new, mutually agreed-upon maritime route to safeguard Iran’s interests. He emphasized that reaching an understanding with Oman does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will simply be fully reopened, maintaining that Tehran will act according to its own interests and will not alter its maritime decisions under the influence of foreign threats.

Japan, US confirm rare joint yen-buying operation, open to further action
Japan’s finance ministry on Monday said it had conducted a coordinated yen-buying operation with the U.S. Treasury on Friday, confirming a rare bilateral action to halt the yen’s slide to fresh 40-year lows.
Tokyo signaled it was prepared to act again if needed, saying it “will not hesitate to conduct further coordinated interventions in the future” and remains in close communication with the U.S. Treasury. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama also stressed that Japan “remains attentive and in close communication with counterparts at U.S. Treasury.”
The Japanese currency had hit 163.73 against the greenback on Thursday last week, and strengthened to 157.57 on Friday. The yen surged more than 1% to 155.20 per dollar after the announcement, its strongest since early May and well off the 40-year low near 164 hit last month.
There was not too much color surrounding the intervention, but Japan is the largest foreign creditor of American government debt, holding $1.14T in U.S. Treasuries. As the yen sank past 160 per dollar, Japanese banks and financial institutions likely faced tremendous pressure to sell their Treasuries to cover yen liabilities. That could have had some serious impacts for the U.S., adding pressure to already rising yields, and knock-on effects for mortgage rates and car loans to credit cards and corporate balance sheets.

World Portfolio shifts further toward equities as tech exposure rises, Goldman says
Exposure to equities and technology stocks has increased across many portfolios, including the benchmark World Portfolio that often guides asset allocation decisions, Goldman Sachs said.
A Goldman chart showed the World Portfolio shifting progressively toward equities over time, with the allocation increasing further when private markets were included. At the same time, the share allocated to global bonds declined relative to earlier decades.
The chart showed global equities and private markets accounting for a growing share of the portfolio recently, while gold remained a relatively small allocation throughout the period. Crypto appeared only as a marginal allocation at the top of the portfolio.
Goldman said the changing composition reflected a broader increase in exposure to equity markets and technology stocks across diversified portfolios. The chart tracked the evolution of the World Portfolio from 1950 through the latest available data.

Corning upgraded by Truist, firm says ‘pullback provides opportunity’
“Simply put, we have waited for a more reasonable entry point to get more constructive, and we now have one post a ~45% pull back in July,” Truist analyst Matthew Niknam wrote in a note to clients. “Since initiating coverage in late March, our 2028E EPS estimates have increased by ~30% (cons. +21%), while shares are flat. Customer spending priorities in the all-important Optical segment (~45% of sales) re: AI/Data Center infra and FTTH remain firm, with the new Photonics MAP presenting an incremental tailwind through the end of the decade.”
Delving deeper, Niknam said he sees top-line growth accelerating over the next three years, due to the aforementioned strength in optical as well as solar, both of which should drive revenue to grow 18% between now and 2028. “Importantly, we believe Corning’s increasing use of long-term agreements with key hyperscaler customers enhances visibility, while these customers’ capex budgets (geared towards AI/DC investment) continues to rise,” Niknam added.
He also expects the company’s new Photonics MAP could create additional upside over the coming years.
Operating margins and return on invested capital are expected to increase through 2030, with Niknam adding the company could raise its estimates for the metrics later this year.
Lastly, he expects earnings per share to grow 30% compounded annually between now and 2029.

Google exec says heavy AI capex spending is a precursor to RSI
Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) DeepMind executive Jasjeet Sekhon said the tech industry’s heavy spending on artificial intelligence-related capex is a precursor to the next stage of AI.
Known as recursive self-improvement, or RSI, the next stage of AI is essentially where the AI can create a better version of itself automatically. For years, that understanding was known to be a part of artificial general intelligence, but the tech industry, and in particular, corporations, have adopted the RSI phrasing in recent weeks.
Sekhon said the revenues from AI “don’t sustain the capital expenditures we’re making so far,” according to The Information, which first reported Sekhon’s comments. However, Sekhon added that betting against the tech industry’s current and future technology “would appear to be unwise,” noting there are already the makings of RSI.
He added that this should not come as a surprise to anyone, as “steam engines were used to create the next steam engine.”
Nonetheless, Sekhon, who joined Google in April from Bridgewater Associates, did state that there could be “AI air pocket such that the expenditures happen but the revenues don’t show up.” He compared the buildout, which is widely expected to top $700B in 2026, after more than $400B was spent in 2025, to larger than the Apollo space program of the 1960s, the Manhattan Project, and the buildout of the internet.

X-Energy rises on plans to double nuclear-grade graphite production capacity
X-Energy (XE) up 5.7% in Monday’s trading after saying it signed a binding agreement with SGL Carbon to double production capacity of medium-grain isotropic graphite, a specialized material used in the company’s Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactor.
X-Energy (XE) said it will invest up to $8M in milestone-based payments to support new facilities and equipment upgrades at SGL’s site in Chedde, France, which will enable the facility to produce graphite billets for up to eight new Xe-100 reactors per year.
SGL concurrently agreed to expand U.S. capacity for machining of billets into graphite blocks, and X-Energy (XE) said full execution would double European manufacturing capacity for medium-grain isotropic graphite by 2030, with additional capacity investments under consideration.
The expansion builds on a 10-year framework agreement established in January, which included an initial three-year award valued at $100M-plus for X-Energy’s (XE) first commercial projects, in which the first NBG-18 billets produced in France have been shipped to SGL facilities in the U.S.

[Newsletter Exclusive] SK hynix and Sandisk unveil first high-bandwidth flash standards
SK hynix (SKHY) and Sandisk (SNDK) have unveiled the first standard specifications for High Bandwidth Flash (HBF), a next-generation storage technology.
The company is set to present HBF as a key technology to overcome memory bottlenecks in the AI era through keynote speeches and panel discussions during the event.
Positioned as a new memory layer between HBM and SSDs, HBF technology leverages NAND to deliver high-speed data transfer alongside significantly expanded capacity. As AI inference drives a massive surge in data processing, HBF is emerging as a key solution to address both bandwidth and capacity scalability challenges.
SK hynix (SKHY) said this milestone comes about six months after launching the consortium in February this year, following the initial standardization partnership with Sandisk in August 2025.
A key highlight is the interconnect linking HBF technology and processors. HBF technology adopts UCIe, an industry-standard connection interface, laying the groundwork to flexibly integrate HBF technology across different processor types, including GPUs and CPUs.
The standard also outlines connection interfaces and electrical characteristics, reliability, and packaging guidelines for the HBF die stack process, and software I/O guidelines.
Furthermore, SK hynix plans to leverage this release to expand the adoption of HBF technology in the AI storage market and foster the surrounding ecosystem. With Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) and Tenstorrent currently participating in the HBF consortium, the consortium aims to expand its reach while enhancing technical maturity and market acceptance based on open collaboration.

[Newsletter Exclusive] SpaceX prioritizes Starlink launches, limiting rocket capacity for commercial customers
A Reuters analysis of launch data found Starlink missions accounted for roughly 79% of Falcon 9 launches so far in 2026, up from 54% in 2020. Multiple satellite operators told Reuters they have been informed that Falcon 9 capacity is effectively sold out until 2028 or 2029 as SpaceX (SPCX) shifts its focus toward its next-generation Starship rocket.
For investors, the launch squeeze could strengthen the outlook for companies developing alternatives to SpaceX (SPCX), including Rocket Lab (RKLB), while reinforcing long-term demand for missile, satellite and launch infrastructure. At the same time, limited launch availability may delay revenue for satellite operators that rely on third-party rockets to deploy spacecraft.
Starlink generated an estimated $11.4 billion in revenue in 2025, compared with about $4.1 billion from SpaceX’s launch services business.
The Falcon 9 has dominated the commercial launch market through rapid reuse and frequent flights, but launch prices have climbed from roughly $54 million in 2013 to about $74 million today.

[Newsletter Exclusive] US banning Chinese data center devices may have ‘unintended consequences,’ BNP says
BNP analyst Karl Ackerman said at first glance, the move is a positive for Coherent (COHR), which is the second largest supplier of transceivers, given that Innolight and Eoptolink are the first and third largest, respectively. However, Ackerman wonders if the Trump administration is blocking Chinese manufacturing firms, or Chinese manufacturing, given that Coherent’s largest manufacturing plant is in China.
Secondly, there could be negatives for Marvell Technology (MRVL), Broadcom (AVGO), Credo Technology (CRDO), and MaxLinear (MXL), Ackerman added, given they all compete in the optical digital signal processor space.
“The optical DSP is ~40% of the bill of materials, and every optical transceiver (save for LRO) requires a [digital signal processor],” Ackerman wrote in a note to clients. “Lasers are ~1/3 of the bill of materials for optical transceivers. While many laser manufacturers are based in the US and Japan, these laser manufacturers all still ship to every transceiver manufacturer. Eliminating Chinese transceiver suppliers overnight would create a significant demand vacuum for US laser suppliers such as Lumentum, Coherent, and Broadcom.”
Additionally, indium phosphide is used for silicon photonics, or SiPho, and electro-absorption modulated lasers. Given that Chinese transceiver suppliers are “significant” producers of SiPho transceivers, such a ban could negatively impact Aixtron, AXT (AXTI), JX Metals, Sumitomo, and IQE, Ackerman added.
Lastly, given how important Innolight and Eoptolink are to Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD (AMD) for their respective AI rack-scale systems, those two could also be impacted, Ackerman explained.
“It’s highly unlikely that US suppliers will be able to service the insatiable demand for 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers and components if there is an outright ban of Chinese transceivers,” Ackerman pointed out. “This decision would create even more tightness across AI components and result in accelerated inflationary pressure on US hyperscaler capex.”

D-Wave Quantum in focus as new paper suggests hardware breakthrough
The study, published in the scientific journal Nature, shows a “fast, high-fidelity, two-qubit entangling gate that preserves the error-correction advantages of D-Wave’s superconducting dual-rail qubit architecture,” the company said in a statement.
“The results address one of the industry’s most consequential challenges by reducing the immense quantum and classical hardware overhead typically required to detect and correct quantum errors as systems scale,” D-Wave added.
“Gate-model quantum computing’s greatest remaining challenge is not simply building more qubits. It is building systems that can correct errors efficiently as they scale,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. “Superconducting quantum computers are known for speed, but achieving the high fidelity needed for scalable, fault-tolerant systems has remained a challenge. This research demonstrates that our dual-rail architecture combines fast superconducting operations with high-fidelity performance while preserving native hardware-level error detection. We believe that this work confirms our path to commercial fault-tolerant quantum computing is practical and achievable.”

Eyes on the skies: Walmart expands drone partnership with Alphabet’s Wing to Florida
Walmart (WMT) and Alphabet-owned Wing expanded their drone delivery service to parts of Central Florida last week, marking the program’s entry into its fifth U.S. state. The service currently operates from Supercenters in Apopka and Clermont, reaching more than 50K homes and businesses with deliveries in roughly 20 to 30 minutes.
Customers of the new service can order small, lightweight items such as groceries, school supplies, electronics, and over-the-counter medicine, which are flown by autonomous drones and lowered to the ground via a tether system. In Florida, Wing’s drones can carry up to 2.5 pounds per flight, with plans to raise that limit to 5 pounds.
Walmart (WMT) is offering drone delivery free for Walmart+ members for a limited time, while charging about $19.99 per delivery for non-members. Coverage around Orlando is expected to grow in the coming weeks as service extends to additional stores in Ocoee, Clermont, and Haines City.
Looking ahead, Walmart and Wing view Florida as a key piece of a much larger national rollout that aims to create what they describe as the world’s largest retail drone delivery network. The companies plan to expand drone delivery to more than 270 Walmart locations by the end of 2027, adding roughly 150 new stores in 2026 alone and ultimately reaching over 40M Americans. Planned expansion markets include major metro areas such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Miami, and several others, alongside the seven additional cities announced for 2027—Memphis, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Salt Lake City.
Wing began in 2012 as a Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) X “moonshot” project, conducting its first autonomous delivery tests in Australia in 2014. By 2018, it graduated into an independent Alphabet subsidiary. In 2019, Wing made aviation history as the first drone company to secure FAA Air Carrier Certification, launching America’s first commercial home-delivery service in Virginia.

[Newsletter Exclusive] The three-year itch: Why this bull market might just be getting started
The bull run, which started in October 2022, is now 3.8 years old and boasts a gain of over 115%. While a triple-digit return over nearly four years might feel overextended to some, historical precedent paints a highly optimistic picture for the years ahead.
A recent historical chart published by Carson Investment Research overlays the current market’s trajectory with every bull run of the past fifty years that successfully crossed the three-year threshold. When mapping out these seasoned bull markets, a clear trend emerges: once a rally establishes itself past the 36-month mark, it rarely suffers a premature death.
A look at the comparable historical periods shows just how far these mature runs can go:
The Dot-Com Boom (Dec ‘87 - March 2000): The granddaddy of modern bull markets lasted a staggering 12.3 years, eventually returning nearly 600%.
The Post-Financial Crisis Recovery (March ‘09 - February ‘20): This steady climb dominated the 2010s, running for 11.0 years and gaining over 400% before the pandemic abruptly ended it.
The 70s/80s Transition (October ‘74 - November ‘80): Enduring through a period of high inflation, this market lasted 6.2 years.
The Mid-80s Surge (August ‘82 - August ‘87): A powerful 5.0-year run that netted investors roughly 200%.
The Mid-2000s Run (October ‘02 - October ‘07): Another solid 5.0-year stretch that doubled the market before the 2008 housing crash.
The present bull market is tracking comfortably within the historical pack. It has already outpaced the percentage gains seen at the same timeline during the 1974 and 2002 rallies, though it trails the explosive trajectory of the 1982 and 2009 markets.
Notably, the data points out that none of the bull markets in the last half-century that made it to this age ended before the 5-year mark. If the current one merely matches the shortest of these historical peers (the runs ending in 1987 and 2007), investors would still have over a year of growth ahead of them. If it follows the path of the mega-bulls of the 90s or 2010s, this rally could carry well into the 2030s.

[Newsletter Exclusive] Tesla is building a monster Terafab chip complex - these stocks could also benefit
Tesla (TSLA) confirmed on Thursday that its massive Terafab will be built in Grimes County, Texas. The Austin-based company broke ground on its research fab on the North Campus of Giga Texas in April, a site that it calls a precursor to Terafab. The initial investment is $16.8B.
In a nutshell, Terafab is a planned, ultra-large semiconductor manufacturing complex that Tesla (TSLA), SpaceX (SPCX), and xAI intend to build to produce advanced artificial-intelligence chips at unprecedented scale. It is designed as a vertically integrated “chip city” that brings every major stage of chip production (design, wafer fabrication, memory manufacturing, advanced packaging, and testing) under one roof, rather than spreading these steps across multiple facilities and companies as is typical today.
The goal is to generate more than one terawatt of AI compute capacity per year, supplying chips for Tesla’s (TSLA) vehicles and Optimus humanoid robots, as well as for space-based AI data centers and solar-powered satellites envisioned by SpaceX (SPCX) and xAI.

Oklo (OKLO) up 1% in Thursday’s trading following news that its Groves Isotope Test Reactor in Texas has reached “criticality” after achieving a controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction at low power.
Oklo (OKLO) said the milestone comes less than a year after groundbreaking and follows U.S. Department of Energy authorization through the agency’s Reactor Pilot Program.
Groves is part of the company’s broader effort to build domestic isotope production capabilities for healthcare, industry, research, space, and national security applications.
The reactor is a demonstration version of the technology Oklo (OKLO) plans to use in its new medical isotope business, although the company said it will help its efforts to build reactors that generate electricity.
Reaching criticality is a necessary but far from sufficient step toward commercialization for small modular reactors, which face various hurdles with none yet operating commercially in the U.S.
